Predicted dwell DURATION (not just yes/no) enters the sum as its own weighted term — depth of read is scored, continuously.

Last public weight: none — this head first appeared publicly in the 2026 release; no weight value has ever been published.

2026 weight: withheld — all current weights live in an unpublished params module. The weights story →

What actually moves it

Substance pays twice: once on the dwell head, again on predicted seconds. A 40-word post that takes 8 seconds to read cannot earn what a genuinely engrossing post earns.

Where it sits in the formula

Phoenix (a Grok-1-architecture transformer, phoenix/README.md) predicts P(cont_dwell_time) per viewer from that viewer’s own engagement history — not from your post’s running like-count. The prediction is multiplied by its weight and summed with the other 21 terms, then the author-diversity decay and out-of-network multiplier apply.
